Contact-form messages

When you use the contact form, we collect the name, email address, optional organisation, enquiry type and message that you provide. Those details are emailed directly to the group’s principal investigator, Sam Berens, so that we can read and respond to your enquiry. The website does not save a separate copy and does not accept file uploads.

Your message will remain in Sam’s University of Sussex mailbox for as long as it is reasonably needed to respond to and manage the correspondence. Please do not submit confidential, sensitive or special category information through the form.

Spam and security controls

To prevent automated abuse, the form temporarily uses your IP address to create a keyed, pseudonymous rate-limit record. That record contains submission times, not your message or raw IP address. It stops affecting access after 15 minutes; old records are subsequently removed during form traffic or by the server’s temporary-file housekeeping. The web server and email service may also keep ordinary technical and delivery logs according to their configured security and retention settings.

Essential cookies

The contact form sets a short-lived session cookie so it can protect submissions against forgery, check that the form was not submitted instantly and show a one-time success message. The separate Internal area uses its own session cookie to keep members signed in securely. These cookies are necessary for those features, contain random identifiers rather than your form message, and are not used for analytics or advertising.

Your choices

You can contact us without the form by emailing s.berens@sussex.ac.uk. You may also use that address to ask what happened to a message you submitted or to request that it be deleted, subject to any record-keeping obligations that apply.

This website links to University, journal and publisher websites. Those services have their own privacy practices, which apply when you visit them.
