Principal Investigator
Cognitive neuroscientist
Sam’s research focuses on the neuroscience of learning and memory. He is particularly interested in how we learn general patterns and abstract concepts, why we forget, and how genetic factors and different types of dementia—including Alzheimer’s disease—affect our memories.
His work combines carefully controlled behavioural experiments with functional MRI and computational modelling.
PhD Student
Cognitive neuroscience researcher
Sophie studies how we learn conceptual knowledge, particularly the brain systems that allow us to acquire abstract concepts. Her research tests neural network models of cognition using behavioural and neuroimaging techniques.
Before joining the Learning and Inference Group in 2023, Sophie completed an MSci in Neuroscience at the University of Manchester.
